A Special Interview with ShuQiNet Site Owner/Creator, sweetasia

As you know, China has since taken down social media connections like Yahoo!, which is how I found the connection with sweetasia, so I am not in touch with her right now. The star of our conversation, Shu Qi herself, has recently returned to modeling after a lengthy bout with Covid-19.

Wishing both of them well on sweetasia'a birthday, February 1:

The beautiful, mysterious, prolific, sometimes shocking Taiwanese megastar known as Shu Qi has three films due for release very soon, as well as several major Asian edition magazine covers and interviews. Not long ago, I ran a search for 'recent news about shu qi', and that's how I found a brand-new website, (now closed). The site is beautifully designed, and features a mind-boggling collection of Shu Qi's fashion modeling work, as well as updates on her current film and commercial projects. Her fans, and there are many, will want to see it and enjoy it for themselves. I recently had a chance to talk with the site's highly conversant owner/creator, who signs herself in as sweetasia. Here's how it went:

PART ONE

I began by telling sweetasia that I wanted to run this interview on my blog a few days before Shu Qi's new film, City Under Siege, opens, which is on the 12th.

sweetasia: Hi James! I am glad you want to boost my site. The premiere of City Under Siege is on 8th of August in Hong Kong, while some other sources claim it is on the sixth day of August. JPM: sweetasia, that is, Cherryl, all we know about you is that you are female and live in Beijing, China. Would you like to describe yourself in a little more detail? sweetasia: I am a quite introverted person, I like reading books and practicing Martial Arts. I am also a big fan of good cinema. You can refer to me as Cherryl or Sweetasia, which is my nickname. JPM: How did you get to be so accomplished as a web designer? sweetasia: ...you asked me how I became such a good web designer. I used Webs.com which has a very useful and easy to manage way of keeping up a site. So, it wasn't that difficult. I tend to spend one to two hours every time there is news about Shu Qi to update the site. It is just that the site doesn't have enough followers yet...

......

JPM: For someone who says she's not that much a fan of Shu Qi's acting, you've done quite a job of setting up a tribute to her! In fact, shuqinet, at www.shu-qi.webs.com, is already the most extensive source for Shu Qi info on the Internet. Can you tell us what inspired you to create the site? sweetasia: I am a fan of Shu Qi's acting but not a huge fan of her in general because I do not know her personally. Despite that fact I decided to create a site for Shu for several reasons: a: There was no decent English site dedicated to her and many of her fans (in the west) couldn't learn more about her; b: I truly adored her action movie 'So Close' and her acting in 'The Eye 2'.*; c: A west friend of mine was always nagging about the fact that there was no decent site dedicated to Shu and I wanted to surprise him; d: I always wanted to run a site, and e: She is a girl that has been through a lot, she comes from a poor family. After all that dark period (when) she was considered to be a soft core porn star, she managed to prove herself talented enough to be in real movies. She was strong enough to move on. So she deserves a nice site. * JPM notes: Aside from Shu's acting, 'The Eye 2', which is available at many DVD rental stores, includes some horrific scenes, and some viewers may find it hard to watch, so be warned! ...... JPM: So far, you've been favoring Shu as a model more than as an actress, but she has been very, very productive at both acting and modeling for many years now. Can you say what it is about Shu Qi that has held the attention of Asian audiences for so long? Do you ever wish you were as much of a celebrity as she is?

sweetasia: I am not keen on being a celebrity. As for what drives the audiences crazy about her, I think it is her fresh personality, she is very humorous and pleasant to watch at her interviews, she shows her real self and isn't afraid to talk about the dark periods of her life. She is a strong independent woman who doesn't feel empowered only when she has a man next to her, since she has been single for a long time. Other than that it is obvious that she is very beautiful...

......

Part 2 of our interview includes Cherryl's thoughts on Shu Qi and nudity, on Shu Qi and Michelle Yeoh, and on her plans for the future of ultimate shuqinet. That will be posted right here, next Wednesday, so don't miss it! And as always, your comments are welcome, send them to us at jmcgrfx@yahoo.com. JPM.
